A day at Melvin Hundehotell – from morning cuddles to evening calm

In short: A day with us follows a steady, calm rhythm: a morning walk and breakfast, play and rest before noon, another walk at midday, cuddles and activities in the afternoon, an evening walk – and then a peaceful night with people in the house the whole time. Three walks a day, every single day.

“What does my dog actually do all day at your place?” It is probably the question we get most often – and it is a great question. So here is the answer: come along through a perfectly ordinary day with us on Nesøya, from the first tail wag to the last yawn.

Morning: soft ears and wet grass

The day starts gently. We do the morning round, room by room, and say good morning to every single guest – some meet us with their whole body wagging, others need a couple of minutes and a scratch behind the ear first. Both are perfectly fine. Then it is off on the day's first walk, while the grass is still wet and the smells are at their very best.

Back inside, it is breakfast time. Every dog eats their own food from home, in peace and quiet in their own room. No stress, no competition over the bowls.

Before noon: play for the playful, peace for the peaceful

After breakfast the day splits a little, because dogs are as different as we are. The social and playful ones get to play together in small, hand-picked groups – always with one of us present. Those who prefer quiet get exactly that: a sunny spot, a lap or a chew toy in peace. With only 12 guests staying with us, we have time to know each one.

Midday: walk number two

Then it is out again! Nesøya is a little paradise for dog walks – quiet roads, patches of woodland and sea air. We vary the routes to suit the dogs: long loops for the keen hikers, shorter and smell-rich rounds for the small and the older ones. These walks are where we get the best photos for owners who have asked for an update.

Afternoon: quality time

The afternoon is cuddle time. A little training for those who enjoy it, brushing for those who love it, and sofa snuggles for the specialists in exactly that. This is also when we often welcome new guests arriving for day care or starting their stay – the house is at its calmest and loveliest flow.

Evening: the last walk and dropping shoulders

After dinner we take the evening walk – the third of the day. Back inside, the pace winds down gradually: the lights are dimmed, the goodnight treats are handed out, and every dog finds their spot in their own room, ideally on the blanket that smells of home. There is something special about a house full of dogs falling asleep one by one.

Night: never alone

And here is what we are most proud of: we are here at night too. Always. Should a dog wake up and feel uneasy, a familiar voice and a steady hand are just a few steps away. That is why dogs settle so quickly with us – and why their owners do too.
